Living Stones
August/02/2010 09:32 AM

Did you know that we are living stones? When we came to Jesus, the Living Stone, He became our foundation. Our foundation is strong and sure through the word of God and the blood of Jesus! We were made to glorify Him with our lives and with our bodies. As believers, we are His literal dwelling place. He is not only building us as individuals, but He is building and connecting us together to be a holy, royal priesthood. His purpose for us is to be separated unto Himself for His plan, purpose and pleasure!
1 Corinthians 3:16-17 “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you.”
It is important that we keep this truth in the forefront of our mind, so that our hearts will be guarded as we constantly realize and acknowledge that we are containers of God’s presence. This spurs us to be careful of what we let our eyes look at, what our ears hear, as well as our actions and words. God is a holy God who dwells in those who love Him. He desires for us to be holy as He is holy. To live as stones that are alive ,is to live according to the word of God and for it to become the very fiber of our being.
2 Tim. 2:15-19 “Do your best to present yourselves to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. Avoid Godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. This teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, who have wandered away from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some. Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows who are His” and “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.”
What confirms that we belong to God? What is the sign that we are living stones, built firm and solid on an unshakeable foundation? When we are speaking the word with our mouths and acting accordingly, we are demonstrating that we are full of the word of God.
If we mindlessly speak doubt, negativity, superstition, secular and liberal worldly things and even old wives tales, the Bible says, it is godless chatter. Anything that does not agree with the written word of God should not be a part of our belief system or come from our lips.
It is such a tragedy when something terrible happens to someone. At times, well- meaning, very ignorant Christians, inform the victims that God is teaching them a lesson. Sometimes, they go as far as to say, “God has brought this and that upon you because you have some sin in your life,” or that “God is taking you through this valley so He can build up your faith and teach you a spiritual lesson.” A prominent preacher was heard saying this on television this very week.
We have dear Christian friends who recently had a beautiful baby boy who was born with a birth defect. They were told by some that it was the parent’s fault that their son was born this way! Can you imagine! People don’t know the scriptures. The Bible says it is the thief, the devil, who comes to steal, kill and destroy; he is the author of sickness, infirmity and disease! Folks want to blame tragedy on God and destroy the faith of some. We know that “every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father of Lights in whom there is no variableness or shadow of turning.”
If we don’t know the word, then whatever is in our hearts will come out as godless chatter which doesn’t build the spiritual house; it only tears it down.
Jesus is the Living Stone! Hallelujah! You too are living stones as you build your spiritual house on Him and His word, which stands forever!
1Peter 2:6 For in the Scripture it says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in Him will never be put to shame!”
