Found Faithful

Prayer on Mountainside
Proverbs 20:6 “Many a man claims to have unfailing love, but a faithful
man who can find?”

It’s one thing to say that we love our spouse. It is another thing to show that love. It is music to my ears when my husband tells me he loves me, but if he failed to be faithful or show me with his actions, then I would doubt his sincerity. I have to say that I am a blessed woman because I have the most wonderful husband that affirms his love to me daily in all he does.

Our love for God is so similar. It’s easy to give lip service. Even words that are from the heart are just that, words. However, the true test of our love for Him is found in our faithfulness in living for Him. He has blessed us and entrusted us with all the riches of His kingdom, so it is important that we are found productive and faithful.

On the third occasion that Jesus appeared to His disciples after He was raised from the dead, he asked Peter a question. In John 21:15-17 Jesus asked:

“Simon son of John, do you truly love Me more than these?”
“Yes Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”
Jesus said,
“Feed My lambs.”
Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you truly love Me?”
He answered and said, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”
Jesus said,
“Take care of My sheep.”
The third time He said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love Me?”
Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love Me?” He said, “Lord you know all things; you know that I love you.”
Jesus said,
“Feed My sheep.”

I think the message is loud and clear. We say we love God. He says, show Me you love Me by obeying what I ask you to do.

I looked up the definition of faithful in the Merriam-Webster’s dictionary:

Faithful- worthy of trust, reliable-consistent with truth-devoted.
There are also four words that can be used interchangeably with the word faithful:

1.
Loyal- steadfast in affection or allegiance, a firm resistance to any
temptation to desert or betray
2.
Steadfast- implies as steady and unwavering course in love, allegiance
or conviction
3.
Resolute- implies firm determination to adhere (stick) to a cause or
purpose
4.
Conscientious- firm in adherence to promises or a duty

Here is one more way to define
faithful: True to the facts, to a standard, or to an original!

Our Father is the original and we are to be a copy of the original! All these words can be used to describe our God and our life as well. Of course, God is the only one who is perfect in every way, but because of our love for Him, we strive to be like Him in order to please Him.

1 Cor. 4:1-2 says; “Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards (trustees) of the mysteries of God. Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.”

God has given freely to us such an awesome salvation that includes everything we will ever need right now and on into eternity. Therefore, we are entrusted to keep and walk in the things of the kingdom. What a responsibility and a privilege!

What are some of the things that God expects of all of us? (It’s really not that we
have to do these things: we get to do them!) Well, as believers, we are to pray and worship Him on a daily basis, live a pure life, and share His love and word with a dying world. It is also important to walk in the Spirit and to walk in love with one another. We should always be looking for a way to serve others; believers and nonbelievers as well.

We are stewards and trustees of His kingdom on this earth. It’s so easy to draw back and let things get in the way or distract us from walking faithfully and pleasing Him every day.

What has God asked you and me to do this year, last month or even today? Let’s be found faithful!

1Peter 4:10: “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administrating God’s grace in it’s various forms.”
