And the Iron Did Swim!

Ax Floating
2 Kings 6:1-6 “And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, ‘Behold now the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us. Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell.’ And he answered, ‘Go ye.’ And one said, ‘Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants.’ And he answered, ‘I will go.’ So he went with them.

And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood. But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water; and he cried and said, ‘Alas master! For it was borrowed.’

And the man of God said, ‘Where fell it?’ And he showed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither, and the iron did swim.”

And the iron did swim! God performed a miracle. The axe seemed to be lost and gone forever, as well as the good reputation of those prophets. I am sure they were concerned that not being able to return the tool could make them appear men who didn't keep their word; causing dishonor to God.

I can imagine their hearts sank as they watched it fall deep into the river. They were just powerless witnesses to the unfolding circumstance. It was out of their control. But, contrary to the law of physics, that axe head rose from the depth of the water and began to swim! God is still in the supernatural miracle business today! His power overrides the powers of nature or the powers that be in this world.

Matthew 19:26 "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

Our church just came through quite a year. We stepped out in faith, in the face of a failing economy, to build a beautiful new sanctuary and children's facilities. We felt in our hearts it was what God was leading us to do. We went forward in unity with only a few leaving because they didn't agree with our endeavor. We even had people in the community say things like, “How are you going to pay for this?” or “I hope you are hearing from God or you guys will be in a mess of trouble for sure!”

Through it all, we never stopped trusting, praying, and giving. It was no easy task. We faced many challenges and had to walk by faith every step of the way, but the iron did swim! God supernaturally was overseeing His business and came through every time. He has been with us all along and provided all that is needed. He is the one and only faithful, mighty and true God! Glory!

Matthew 17:20 "I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'move from here to there and it will move.' Nothing will be impossible for you."

Do you have any friends, acquaintances, or members that have cold, hardened hearts toward God? Maybe it seems like it would be easier to believe for an axe head to float than to believe for them to surrender to God and be changed. You have witnessed, lectured, invited, walked in love and patience, yet still they seem unmoved. You have done all you know to do, the man ward side of things, now stand firm, trusting God to do his part. Keep praying for them and never, never, NEVER give up! Every time we lift that person up in prayer , God sends His Holy Spirit to speak and deal with their heart. I believe He sends people to plant seeds along their path. We may not see the evidence on the outside that our prayers are making a difference, but they are! That hardened heart that is cold as ice will become broken and melt. The iron will swim!

What impossible situation are you facing? Bring it to your Heavenly Father. Is there something heavy on your heart? Believe in the Lord of Hosts! Come bring it before Him in the name of Jesus. Find at least two or three scriptures that apply to your case and learn them. Take those verses and speak them out. Get them in your heart. Pray and praise God consistently even when it doesn't look or feel like it's happening. The iron will swim!

Matthew 9:23 "Everything is possible for him who believes."

Matthew 11:22 "Have faith in God,"
Jesus answered.
